Now is the time to get to work.  The first round is behind us, so let’s look at the fantasy situations greatly affected in relevant draft order.

Ascension and/or Havoc-Jadeveon Clowney going to the Texans makes their defense scary, but will he play opposite JJ Watt or line up behind him at OLB?  If he can stay at DE, he will be a beast putting up DE1 numbers; however, if he gets slotted as a OLB, his value lessens quite a bit unless you play in a heavy sack scoring league.clowney

Ascension Blake Bortles drafted by the Jaguars.  He has little competition and has a few offensive play makers in place.  The quarterback is a nice dynasty QB2 who might do more with his feet than most would think. He increases the value of Cecil Shorts, Ace Sanders, and Toby Gerhart.  Bortles is no Ben Rothlisberger, but he should be the best Jacksonville quarterback since Mark Brunell (hopefully better).

Ascension-Sammy Watkins selected the Bills for a huge cost.  They gave up a lot (two firsts and a fourth) to get the best receiver in the draft.  He has the talent to be a superstar, but I’m not sold on his quarterback situation.  This might make 1.01 rookie draft owner pause, don’t let that be you. Watkins can succeed there, especially with Spiller and Fred Jackson  running interference.

Havoc-Khalil Mack going to the Raiders. He might be a huge upgrade at pass rusher from the outside linebacker spot, but the Raiders already have plenty of blitzers.  I like what he brings for the franchise defensively, but not so much fantasy-wise.

Ascension-Mike Evans drafted by the Bucs. The huge receiver will get the opportunity to learn from Vincent Jackson and catch passes from either old man Josh McCown or Mike Glennon.  He might not make a huge impact from Day One, but this is someone who will become a top ten dynasty wide out by 2015.

Ascension-Justin Gilbert selected by the Browns.  He should be the most targeted rookie corner with Joe Haden playing the other side.  The corner back is a good cover guy and brings a lot to the return game.  Bump him up even higher in return yardage leagues.

Ascension-Eric Ebron going to the Lions.  He is the best receiving tight end in the draft and Brandon Pettigrew is one of the best blockers.  I think he becomes a top eight dynasty tight end in Detroit. This makes Matthew Stafford even more dangerous giving him another weapon and takes more pressure off Calvin Johnson and Reggie Bush.

Ascension-Odell Beckham, Jr.  drafted by the Giants.  The young receiver is more explosive than Victor Cruz and gives Eli Manning a better weapon on the outside.  He should be able to step in for the spot Hakeem Nicks vacated when he left for the Colts.

Havoc-Ryan Shazier selected by the Steelers.  He is not the thumper that Lawrence Timmons is, but this definitely makes the defense stronger will his ability to cover and rush from the ILB position. This is a better football move than a fantasy one.

Ascension-Brandin Cooks going to the Saints.  He makes the loss of Darren Sproles a little less painful.  The wide receiver is so fast, adjusts well to the ball in the air and is great on quick passes.

Ascension-Johnny Manziel drafted by the Browns.  Sure they moved up a little to get him, but the quarterback gets into a great situation throwing to Josh Gordon and Jordan Cameron.  His team plays good defense so Manziel won’t need to be reckless.  This might be the best situation he could have reached.

Ascension-Deone Bucannon selected by the Cardinals.  He will be more of a run stopper, physical safety to Tyrann Mathieu.  Great pair of safeties are now in Arizona.

Havoc-Kelvin Benjamin going to the Panthers.  I like the position selected, but would have preferred Lee or Adams as Benjamin drops a lot of passes.  He is a very physical imposing player, but is not very consistent.  I have my doubts that he can hold up as a number one receiver in Carolina.

Ascension-Teddy Bridgewater drafted by the Vikings.  Great move to jump in front of the Texans and in a Norv Turner offense, the young quarterback will get protected and be nurtured.  This helps Patterson and Rudolph as they are both better short to mid-range receivers.  His rushing ability also helps Peterson gain an extra step once in a while.
