First of all, my apologies to you Ozzy fans if you feel I stole a good line for an article.  Despite the NFL lockout, a dynasty junkie like me needs new blood and new challenges.

Many times a new dynasty league will be built out of a dispute with an existing league and “The League” is no different.  Sam aka @gridironguy and I went through some trial and error to put rules in place while recruiting some of the best twitter minds for the league.  In this article, I will be concentrating on my own team and thought process, however maddening that is…hahaha (think Ozzy laughing not me).

Quick league rules: start 1 qb, 2-4 rbs, 2-4 wrs, 1-3 tes, 1 k, 2-5 dls, 2-5 lbs, 2-5 dbs

Scoring: 5 pt passing tds, all other TDs are 6 pts, 1 pt 20 yd passing, .1 pt/1 yd rush/rec/return, ppr rb/wr, 1.5 ppr tes, 1.5 pts tackles, 3 pt sacks, 3 pts turnovers/pass def.  Complete draft results here: http://football19.myfantasyleague.com/2011/options?L=53012&O=17&DISPLAY=LEAGUE&POSITION=*&FRANCHISE=0000

1.11 Mendenhall– 8th RB taken, he is a knucklehead on twitter, but a hell of a RB

2.02 Roddy White– 4th WR taken, consistent and yes, age 30

3.11 J-Stew– has the talent of a top 5 RB and if D-Will is gone, expecting great things

4.02 Jahvid Best– PPR machine and will be splitting carries with Leshoure, not worried

5.11 Jimmy Graham– 5th TE taken, sophomore explosive playmaker

6.02 Julio Jones®- going top 3 in rookie drafts, I get a top Atlanta WR for next 10 years (Roddy then Julio)

7.11 Ben Roethlisberger– 10th QB taken, averaged over 25 points in ’10, great value

8.02 Mikel Leshoure®- why not take the other half of the tandem, now all bases covered (cheaply)

9.11 Mercedes Lewis– 9th TE taken, takes away a stud TE that I can use as a flex w/1.5 ppr for TEs!

10.2 Mike Thomas– #1 WR option in Jacksonville, he still may return a punt or 2

11.11 Delone Carter®- Matt Waldman and I both have him as a top 5 rookie RB

12.02 Desmond Bishop– 12th LB taken, he got paid starters $ and excelled last year

13.11 DB-Tyvon Branch, 14.02 LB-DeAndre Levy– solid defensive starters

15.11 Randall Cobb®- will be more of a returner this year and return tds/yardage count

16.02 Kendall Hunter®- as I understand it, Gore’s legs aren’t good, he is the future

17.11 Yeremiah Bell, 18.02 Nate Irving®-  Bell is a baller, Irving fits right in at MLB

19.11 Blaine Gabbert®– this was made for 2012 in mind, may start after week 8

20.02 Eric Decker– entered training camp injured in ‘10, Lloyd is the #1, is Decker the #2?

21.11 Colin McCarthy® 22.02 Charles Tillman– McCarthy might be starter right away and Tillman is a solid CB who gets a lot of PDs and tackles

23.11 Dexter McCluster, 24.02 Ed Dickson– solid young depth guys that have a chance to be fill-in bye week starters

25.11 Sean Lee 26.02 Jabaal Sheard®- Lee will get to start, not Bruce Carter, but Lee is consistent, Sheard will be a high tackle guy and what more can you ask for a #1 DL?

27.11 LaRod Stephens-Howling– my biggest mistake, I should have taken Anthony Dixon, LSH gets a lot of return yardage and finished 26th overall for RBs last year

28.02 Jason Campbell– needed a backup QB that will play this year, took best of worst

29.11 Darnell Dockett, 30.02 Cortland Finnegan– DD as my #2 DL, great value here and Finny likes to brawl and be thrown on, my kind of DB

31.11 Brandon Harris®- plays for the team with the most prolific offense, opposing offenses will be behind and love to throw at a rookie CBs

32.02 Thomas Davis, 33.11 Da’Quan Bowers– both are injury questions and huge boom or bust peeps, why not take a chance in the final four rounds?

34.02 Mason Crosby, 35.11 TO– a kicker on a high-powered offense, check, and take a flier on an old guy that over produced last year, check.

I loved my draft other than Stephens-Howling over Dixon, but I digress.  Here is what my friend Ric Serritella from NFL Draft Bible had to say about my team:

QB = B+ = You can pencil Big Ben in for 3500 and 20 TD. I think Campbell could have a good season with Jacoby Ford being Mike Wallace and someone like Chad Johnson re-joining former WR coach Hue Jackson in Oak.

RB = B = Outside of Mendenhall nothing guaranteed here. Like J-Stew but always hurt. Same with Best who will be in timeshare with LeShoure (but when one gets injured, the other should be a valuable fantasy play). 3 rookie runners, one is bound to boom

WR = B = Roddy White is a stud but don’t care for all the young wide outs, but as this is a dynasty league of course…but Big Ben, Mendenhall, White is a nice 1-2-3 foundation of starters.

TE = A = Any time you can pluck a TE coming off a 10 TD season and back him up with an emerging talent like Graham, great selections.

DL = B = Again, rookies wont make a huge initial impact. Dockett plays in the Zona hybrid defense 3-4/4-3 but usually good for at least 8 sacks. I think Sheard is a future double-digit sack guy but may take a year or two to develop. Bowers is boom or bust.

LB = B = Plenty of tackles here, I love the Sean Lee pick. Big time sleeper. Brooking is DONE.

DB = A = Good mix of INT guys and tackle guys.

There it is, tried to keep it real. After skimming through rosters quickly, it looks like CNY Helmets and Team Venton will be the two toughest teams to compete with…

Overall B+.

Look for an article about the whole draft up on Thursday or Friday this week and of course my co-founder, Bryan Fontaine’s, rebuttal.
