This is the final installment of my full disclosures of my dynasty fantasy football teams. My team, Ivanka Trumps All, is coming off its first title in 2013 and looking for more championships. This is my longest running league that started in 2010. The league began as a local NYC league with my friend Derek aka Swoop as the commissioner several years earlier. He was a member of my old Anakin’s Dynasty League (which lasted five years earlier) and liked the dynasty concept. Only about half of his New York league mates wanted to make the jump to a dynasty fantasy football league, so Swoop and I ended up mixing his local friends and several of my online friends to form this 12 team league. You can find the league here:http://www19.myfantasyleague.com/2014/home/49187#0
This is a “starter IDP league”. Sometimes new IDP players are nervous about trying different things, so this league only starts four IDP positions: 1-2 LBs, 1-2 DLs, and 1-2 DBs with tackle heavy scoring. I attempt every year to get more defensive players added to no avail. On offense the starting lineup looks like: 1 QB, 1-3 RBs, 1-3 WRs, 1-3 TEs (6 starters between RB/WR/TE), and 1 K. All touchdowns are worth 6pts and the PPR concept stagers with 1pt for running backs, 1.25 for wide receivers, and 1.5 for tight ends. There are also bonuses for certain thresh holds: 5pts for 100 yards rushing or receiving (not combined) and 5pts for 300 yards passing. During the regular season, the rosters drop to 30 regular spots and four taxi squad slots for rookies and injured players listed as doubtful or worse.
QBs- Tony Romo, Andy Dalton, Josh McCown, AJ McCarron (start 1)
Romo, when healthy, is a good starter who seems to get to 300 yards a lot with their porous defense. I picked up Dalton in a trade last year and am ok with him as a backup, but I don’t trust him or McCarron much. McCown helped carry me last season when Cutler got hurt and will only stay on this team if he is starting.
RBs- LeSean McCoy, Zac Stacy, MJD, Devonta Freeman, Tre Mason, Khiry Robinson, Dexter McCluster, Bryce Brown, Chris Polk, David Wilson (start 1-3)
McCoy is a no brainer and because of him I now have a piece of the Bills backfield with the trade of Brown. The draft broke as well as it could with me picking up Mason to complete the rams backfield with Stacy. I like Stacy better, but why take the chance? MJD is getting old, but is still a decent bye week filler. Freeman impressed me in college and it made sense in the second round of the rookie draft. I love the upside that Robinson and McCluster (Danny Woodhead 2?) present. Wilson is a high risk reward player who never needs to be in my lineup, so I’ll hold on a little longer.
WRs- Brandon Marshall, Alshon Jeffery, Pierre Garcon, Randall Cobb, Vincent Jackson, Justin Hunter, Devin Street (start 1-3)
Five of my receivers could be fantasy WR1s in most leagues. This is my biggest strength on this team. The biggest decision I will make is who not to start. Cobb’s value might fade a little if he leaves via free agency next season. Hunter shouldn’t crack the lineup, but looks great for the future. I’m a sucker for having a QB/WR combo which is why I drafted Street late.
TEs- Jordan Cameron, Martellus Bennett (start 1-2)
Cameron exploded last season and might be even better without Josh Gordon in Cleveland. I traded for Bennett in the rookie draft as one owner desperately wanted Johnny Manziel. The deal was my 2014 first rounder (1.12) and third (3.12) for Bennett and his second (2.10) which is where I grabbed Freeman. The fading Zach Miller was my earlier backup and I liked the value.
Ks- Caleb Sturgis, Shane Graham (start 1)
I have two kickers with different bye weeks, ‘nough said.
DLs- Chandler Jones, Lamarr Houston (start 1-2)
I’m required to start one each week and both are top ten guys. Hopefully Jones will make a big jump this season and become a top four defensive end with more tackle and sack opportunities. I don’t usually start more than one defensive lineman due to the tackle heavy scoring, so I only roster two.
LBs- Vontaze Burfict, Lawrence Timmons, Kiko Alonso (I/R), Kevin Minter, CJ Mosely (start 1-2)
Burfict is a top five linebacker option and Alonso is a top ten guy when healthy. Timmons might take a hit this year with rookie Ryan Shazier beside him, but good depth. I had planned to stash Mosely on my taxi all season, but he might be forced into the lineup with Kiko gone for the year. Minter was a pure depth pickup.
DBs- TJ Ward, Eric Berry (start 1-2)
Once again, this is a shallow league defender wise, so I have two of the top ten options out there. Each safety plays with a less than stellar linebacker corps so tackle opportunities might be more plentiful and both have some big play upside.
Team outlook: Unless Ivanka incurs huge injuries, I am confident that I will be in the title hunt.
