With the NFL season looking not so much in doubt, it is time to get your shovels out to start digging for dynasty gold.  I am going to take the chance to discuss four WRs that could be on your waiver wire or available for a cheap trade that can help you improve your dynasty team’s depth.  Two of these WRs I took for myself in my latest dynasty league aka “The League” previously discussed here at dynastyblitz.com.

Let’s start with my favorite old WR Terrell Owens.  He doesn’t have a team and reports have come out saying that TO is the most divisive player in the NFL or just simply a team cancer.  His numbers don’t lie: 2010-72 catches, 983 yards, and 9 TDs with Cincy, 2009-55 catches, 829 yards, 5 TDs with Buffalo, and 2008-69 catches, 1052 yards, and 10 TDs with Dallas. Great stats for a guy that is 37 years old and keeps himself in tremendous shape.  TO may be had late in drafts as I got him at the second to last pick in a 35 round dynasty draft or he may be acquired cheaply as I traded a late 4th round rookie pick for him this year.  I fully expect his skills to drop off by the end of this season; however, if you are like me, TO will be a great stop-gap player to have while you are waiting on a rookie, 2nd or 3rd year WR to step up and according to myfantasyleague.com ADP, he is the 54th WR taken.

Also remember your injured players, they can get drafted for less.  Donnie Avery has shown sparks in his three-year career with the Rams.  His world-class speed along with Bradford’s arm looked very good last year in the summer until Avery got hurt.  Avery flashed in 2008 with 54 catches, 683 yards, and 3 TDs and then again in 2009 with 47 catches, 589 yards, and 5 TDs with less than spectacular QBs.  Yes, the WR situation is muddy in St. Louis with rookies Greg Salas and Austin Pettis, along with Danny Amendola, Danario Alexander, and Mark Clayton in town. I am a big fan of the shotgun approach and try to get 2 or 3 of these Rams wideouts.  Avery is my #1 St. Louis get as he has a cheap 77th WR ADP.

Speaking of injured, you can go two different directions considering the Tampa Bay #2 WR situation.  Dezmon Briscoe showed flashes in the last two games and even if Arrelious Benn comes back Briscoe could make a good bye-week starter.  I’m a bit more excited about Benn myself.  The Illinois standout had a slow start, a decent near ending with at least 4 targets for weeks 12 through 15.  Benn hurt his knee week 16 and didn’t come back.  Yes, 25 catches for 395 yards and 2 TDs isn’t impressive for a rookie season, but it is a good start and is going as the 52nd WR per ADP.  Briscoe made the most of his two weeks in Tampa catching 6 out of his 7 targets for 93 yards and a TD.  Briscoe is worth a late round flyer as he is the 127th WR drafted according to ADP from myfantasyleague.com.

The last WR to take a look at is Eric Decker, who was a standout at Minnesota, but came into training camp gimpy and finished with a stat line of 6 catches for 106 yards and 1 TD.  He only played in 4 games sparingly, but did make the most of his catches with 7 targets.  The injuries to the other WRs in Denver might open the door as Eddie Royal is not healthy and Demaryius Thomas will start the season on the PUP list.  I loved what I saw of Decker in Minnesota and this is the last time to get him below expectations as the 66th WR according to ADP.

Good luck and happy hunting/drafting/trading!
