It’s another year in Indianapolis watching NFL hopefuls running around in bike shorts.  This year’s tight end class is one of the weakest in years.  Please forgive me for not commenting on the scoutingcombineoffensive linemen as their place in fantasy football does not relate individually.  Here are some quick thoughts on a few of the tight ends out there:

TE EJ Bibbs, Iowa State

This tight end was thick and muscular.  He showed off some good hands, but looked a bit tight catching the ball and moving around.

TE Ben Koyack, Notre Dame

Koyack looked a bit thin and a little stiff in the hips.  The tight end fought the ball too much for my taste.  He might be a better blocker than a receiver, which is good for an NFL team, but not for your fantasy team.

TE Nick O’Leary, Florida State

While the tight end had a pedestrian forty time of 4.94 seconds, he more than made up it with his crisp, reliable hands.  O’Leary looked great in the gauntlet, showed off quick feet while making sharp cuts.  He might be a little short to play tight end and could play h-back/full back at the next level.

TE Wes Saxton, South Alabama

He had a fast forty time (4.65 seconds),  showed off soft hands, and adjusted well to the ball in the air.  He participated in the East/West Shrine Game, but did not make a meaningful contribution there so I’m no sure what he will do at the next level.

TE Clive Walford, Miami

Walford continues to impress from his time in Mobile to now in Indianapolis.  He has big muscular legs, good hands, and adjusts well to the ball in the air.  The tight end showed off excellent balance and is clearly the second best tight end in his class after Williams.

TE Maxx Williams, Minnesota

The 2015 class’ best tight end gave everyone a scare with his first forty time of 4.90, but he turned in a second forty of 4.78.  This tight end opens up his hips, has good body control and soft hands.  Williams made some smooth cuts, did great catching the ball in stride while showing no effort whatsoever.  Just like in the NFL Draft, you should be looking near the end of the first round to grab him in your rookie drafts.
