Week 9 Blitzkrieg

Airial ArianEvery week during the season, I will throw out some quick observations of the previous NFL week. With the invention of the DVR and Directv’s ”Quick Bits”, I am able to watch almost every snap of every game and give you a lightning “blitz” war “krieg” to bring to your fantasy league for domination. Bring on the games!

The Falcons game against the Colts was hardly a game.  Atlanta jumped to a 14-0 advantage early on and never looked back.  The Colts only score was a short interception return by CB Jerraud PowersDelone Carter had the first 2 carries of the game, the second which he fumbled and then he didn’t come back until the 4th quarter.  Donald Brown took advantage of the rookie as he had 16 carries for 70 yards of which most were on draws and designed to get the ball carrier in space.  Austin Collie had a team high 4 catches for 32 yards which isn’t saying much.   Curtis Painter had a miserable day with just under a 50% completion rate, 98 yards, and 1 pick.  The Falcons established the run game early with Michael Turner running for 71 yards and a short TD.  Rookie Jaquizz Rodgers also added 60 yards on 11 touches.  Fellow rookie Julio Jones had his best game as a pro finishing with 3 receptions for 131 yards on 4 targets.  The first catch was a contested 50 yard TD catch that was originally ruled a trap and Jones hauled in another 80 yard TD (this one he took a short pass and ran away from everyone).  Jones was solid in the reverse game as well with 2 carries for 33 yards.  Matt Ryan threw for a 58% completion rate with 275 yards and 3 TDs and the interception previously mentioned.  This was the first game that the Falcons offense could do whatever they wished and made the Colts problems extremely clear. Rookie Report Week 4

Ridley

Every week I will take a look at the rookie play to gage how some of the rookies were used.  I will then try to decide if you should pick these rookies up from your waiver wire or attempt to secure them in a trade.

Stevan Ridley rushed 10 times for 97 yards against the Raiders.  He was dancing in his first few carries, but decided to get serious and stuck his foot in the ground and ran in for a 33 yard TD. With Green-Ellis’ plodding running style, I would look for Ridley to get more of Bill Belicheck’s confidence and carries.  He still might be available in shallow leagues.

Last week’s rookie superstar, Torrey Smith, had one catch for one yard.  Smith did have 6 targets and had an opportunity in the end zone that didn’t work out.  He will be a matchup guy.  A lot of his value depends on the health of Lee Evans.  I wouldn’t drop someone to pick him up, but if you have him, hold. Rookie Report Week 3

Smith with the Terrapins in 2009.

Every week I will take a look at the rookie play to gage how some of the rookies were used.  I will then try to decide if you should pick these rookies up from your waiver wire or attempt to secure them in a trade.

RB Stevan Ridley managed 7 carries for 44 yards against the Bills.  When Green-Ellis struggled running the ball (1.8 average), Belichick turned to Ridley.  If he continues to run tough inside, Ridley may get more playing time to protect the Patriots porous passing defense.

WR Dane Sanzenbacher had a TD with 5 receptions for 27 yards against Green Bay.  Right now, he is getting the looks Earl Bennett was getting when Bennett was healthy.  Sanzenbacher is hard to count on considering his low yardage and depending on him to score each week. Preseason Week 3 Blitzkrieg Part 1 (maybe ?)

The new NFL logo went into use at the 2008 draft.

Every week during the preseason and season, I will throw out some quick observations of the previous NFL week.  With the invention of the DVR and Directv’s ”Quick Bits”, I am able to watch every snap of every game and give you a lightning “blitz” war “krieg” to bring to your fantasy league for domination.  Now, some of you may take issue to my “maybe” in the title of the article.  The truth is Hurricane ”Irene” may cause me to be unable to watch the remaining games on satellite, but I will do my best to get Part 2 out.  And on with our show:

Washington’s Tim Hightower looks amazing and his value is going through the roof. Don’t buy him high.  If I already owned him, I would hold him for the first month and trade him to the highest bidder.  R-Rated aka Ray Rice looks awesome.  Lee Evans is working well with Joe Flacco and Torrey Smith is not ready for prime time just yet.  Smith is a dynasty stash wait and see guy now.

The Eagles may be held in check by their o-line this year.  Vick looked out of sorts.  The people who are saying get Vick in the first 5 picks in your draft need to look at his last two NFL games and last two preseason games.  Ronnie Brown is a decent handcuff, but McCoy is the #1 PPR weapon in Philly, especially after his 7 catches for 69 yards vs. the Browns.  Speaking of the Browns, other than Peyton Hillis, the rest of the team looked mediocre against the Eagles.  Colt McCoy and the rest of the passing offense looked out of sorts. Draft the Browns skill players for depth, not as starters.  For the rest of the article:  http://bit.ly/obTQXa

2011 Fantasy Football Rookie Report: Torrey Smith, WR, Baltimore Ravens

Anquan Boldin is starting to look very lonely in the Emerald City.  Todd Heap was a salary cut and signed with the Cardinals.  Derrick Mason was a salary cut, as well, and found himself looking at several suitors: the Jets, the Titans, and possibly the Ravens.  If Mason doesn’t come back, second round pick Torrey Smith may well be thrown into the starting receiver mix.  Yes, he is a Maryland Terrapin, but he brings more to the table than fellow former Terrapin Darrius Heyward-Bey.

2011 ESPN All-Star Football Challenge, LB Von Miller impresses

SOUTHLAKE, TEXAS – The 2011 edition of the popular all-star challenge for draft-eligible prospects is in the books.  It is time to recap all the action as it pertains to dynasty fantasy football leagues.

The 13 players in attendance participated in a variety of drills that gave them another chance to show off their intangibles, personality, interaction with their competitors and how they competed.  It is important to note that not much stock is put into these performances by scouts, but it is a fun event for the players and draftniks alike. 2011 ESPN All Star Challenge

If you are old enough to remember, back in the 70s, there was “Battle of the Network Stars.”  The three major networks had their teams of stars doing challenges showing their determination and athletic ability.  The same concept occurred on the 2011 ESPN All Star Challenge.  Quarterbacks threw at moving targets and receivers; running backs and wide receivers caught passes from JUGS machines and QBs, while sometimes completing the obstacle course.  Linebackers and defensive linemen also ran through their own obstacle course, and flipped tractor tires for feats of strength.
