Week 2: Blitzkrieg

Ben Roethlisberger against the Cincinnati Bengals

Every week during the season, I will throw out some quick observations of the previous NFL week. With the invention of the DVR and Directv’s ”Quick Bits”, I am able to watch almost every snap of every game and give you a lightning “blitz” war “krieg” to bring to your fantasy league for domination. Bring on the games!

I won’t lie, this game made me feel better than the Steelers game last week.  The Steelers took care of the Seattle Seahawks at home.  Mike Wallace had a great game catching 8 passes for 126 yards and a TD on 9 targets.  Ben Roethlisberger did a good job spreading the ball around and almost threw for 300 yards with 1 TD.  Antonio Brown was the second leading receiver and he mad the most of his opportunities going 4-67 yards.  The running game wasn’t spectacular with 19-66 yards and 1 TD for Mendenhall along with Redman running 10 times for 49 yards and 1 TD.  Look for the Steelers to use more of Redman as a closer when the game is over, like it was on that day.  Seattle couldn’t get their running game going with all three of their backs combining for 7 carries for 19 yards.  Tarvarius Jackson was under pressure the entire day throwing for 159 yards and sacked 5 times.  Be ready for a change of QBs in Seattle in the very near future.

The Patriots vs. the Chargers game was a very exciting game that went back and forth with costly mistakes by Phillip Rivers ( 2 interceptions and a fumble) that sealed the game. The fantasy story of the game was someone who didn’t score a TD; Deion Branch went 8-129 yards on 10 targets.  His receiving worked similar to the the running game BJGE brought (17-70 yards and 1 TD).  Both Patriots tight ends ( Hernandez and Rob Gronkowski) were active once again combining for 11-148 yards and 3 TDs.  The Chargers play left us wondering what would have happened if Malcolm Floyd had not left due to a knee injury as he left with 2 catches for 59 yards.  Vincent Jackson picked up the slack delivering 10-172 yards and 2 TDs.  Rivers finally was throwing the ball down the field.  Ryan Matthews was the more steady RB with 12 carries for 64 yards and a TD, but also chipped in 7 receptions for 62 yards as well.  Oh, and Gates did not have a single reception?!? 2011 Fantasy Football Rookie Report: Jonathan Baldwin, WR, Kansas City Chiefs

The 2010 AFC West Champion Kansas City Chiefs looked great in early 2011 when they held off the San Diego Chargers.  The Chiefs passing game, namely Dwayne Bowe and Matt Cassel, did some big things last season especially during weeks 6-12.  RB Jamaal Charles broke out big, as it was looking like the sky was the limit with a touch of smokey KC BBQ sauce.   Then trouble began as OC Charlie Weiss wasn’t allowed to call the Chiefs playoff offense and was let go in the offseason.  Now, former o-line coach Bill Muir was named new OC, but we know who is really going to call those plays, HC Todd Haley.  The Chiefs decided to make their move in the first round by selecting Jonathan Baldwin.

Preseason Week 2 Blitzkrieg Part 1

The new NFL logo went into use at the 2008 draft.

The Patriots 3-TE set was very effective against the Bucs.  It is typically a run formation, but used to perfection as a passing formation.  Aaron Hernandez and Rob Gronkowski owners rejoice.

Legarrette Blount isn’t being used as a three down running back.  Please use caution in moving him up your draft boards.

Dynasty Builder: Diary of a Madman

Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Roddy White at a...

First of all, my apologies to you Ozzy fans if you feel I stole a good line for an article.  Despite the NFL lockout, a dynasty junkie like me needs new blood and new challenges.

Many times a new dynasty league will be built out of a dispute with an existing league and “The League” is no different.  Sam aka @gridironguy and I went through some trial and error to put rules in place while recruiting some of the best twitter minds for the league.  In this article, I will be concentrating on my own team and thought process, however maddening that is…hahaha (think Ozzy laughing not me).   Continue reading
